Downtown Oregon City’s Winter Market Continues December 19th
[At the Market] Hansen Family Farms: “Know your Farmer – Know your Food”
Meet Phil and Christie Hansen, owners of the Hansen Family Farm. The Hansen Family Farm has been participating in the Oregon City Farmer’s market since the beginning, 5 years ago. Now that the regular Farmer Market season is over, the Hansen’s have another opportunity to share their locally produced food with Oregon City.
“We’re happy to extend the market season at this new venue. We still have a selection of seasonal vegetables, a variety of meats, eggs, and seeds to offer,” said Christie Hansen. “We prefer to grow old-fashioned and rare varieties of vegetables because we believe that they are the best to offer.”
Hansen Family Farm offers local and sustainable fresh fruits, vegetables, and heirloom & open-pollinated vegetable plants for gardens. They also specialize in grass-fed beef, pastured poultry, and farm-fresh eggs.
“Our favorite part of participating in Farmer’s Markets is getting to know our customers,” says Christie, “We love providing our customers a good healthy meal.” Christie enjoys building a relationship with customers that buy from them every week at the Oregon City Farmers Market. “They become our friends, and there’s a sense of community between us that I enjoy,” which makes sense since the Hansen’s motto is “know you farmer – know your food.”
The Hansen’s farm has been in their family’s hands for 70 years as a dairy farm. Phil is a 3rd generation dairy farmer and his wife Christie has had hands-on agriculture experience since she was a young teenager. Now, the couple have three little boys learning the ropes to becoming 4th generation farmers.
Their 6-year-old son has begun growing garlic, onions, and marigolds. This past season he began to sell his produce and flowers at the Oregon City Farmer’s Market. Christie shared, “He loved being able to be a part of the entire process. He planted the seeds, tended his plot, watched them grow, and sold them for a profit. It is wonderful to get our kids involved.”
At the Downtown Holiday Markets, the Hansens will sell pork, seasonal vegetables, and winter squash in addition to their usual assortment of beef, chicken, and eggs. The Hansens add, “We grow sustainably and believe that to have great healthy food, you don’t always need to use chemicals.”

Historic Downtown Oregon City’s Winter Market continues Saturday, December 19th at the base of Singer Falls on 8th Street.
Downtown’s Winter Market located at the site of Oregon City’s original “Producers Market”, provides winter season vegetables and produce as well as other options for holiday food shopping at 26 market booths in the heart of Downtown Oregon City.
This is the first time a Winter Market series has been produced in Downtown Oregon City. Last months Winter Market on 8th Street was a huge success according to visitors, vendors and downtown business owners.
“The Winter Market idea has been a nice success for downtown Oregon City,” said Downtown Manager Lloyd Purdy. “A winter market is the perfect way to prepare for a holiday feast of locally grown food in a uniquely downtown setting.”
