Righting Our History: A Panel Discussion Celebrating Oregon Black Authors
During this panel session, authors will share their thoughts around why they write, how they decide what to focus on, and the ways they incorporate Black history into their writings, revealing history that may have been hidden by others. The discussion will take place in the End of the Oregon Trail Interpretive Center Theater starting at 3:00p.
Panel participants are:
| Kimberly S. Moreland | President, Oregon Black Pioneers |
| Bruce Poinsette | Executive Director, Respond to Racism |
| Johanna (Jo) Ogden | Public Historian & Author |
| Emmett Wheatfall | Poet |
| David F Walker | Author, Educator, Armchair Historian |
Mr. Walker is one of the authors of the Eisner-nominated “Big Jim and the White Boy”. The book is one of the One Community, One Book selections. Copies are available at the Library.
One Community, One Book
We are giving away shareable copies of “Big Jim & the White Boy” by David Walker and Marcus Kwame Anderson at the library. “James“ by Percival Everett will be available during the Juneteenth celebration. We will be hosting discussions of the books in July and August. Local Poet Emmett Wheatfall will help guide the discussion.
