This art show, featuring a new body of work by UK-based artist LittleSwimminMachine (aka Francesca Loi), was originally inspired by the artist’s fascination with the concept of Pareidolia: the human tendency to perceive faces in nature’s random patterns (even when none actually exist). Such a fascination led her to an exploration of the anthropomorphic – the attribution of human form and character to non-human entities – with the ultimate goal of blurring the boundary between reality and imagination.
Loi has once again chosen to work with multiple materials, blending diverse textures, styles, and human features as a means of merging the “typical” with the strange. In doing this, she hopes to have conjured up stirrings of unease.
The show debuts on November 8 and runs through November 29 at the Imperfecta Gallery. On November 8 there will be an opening reception between 5 and 7pm. Gallery Hours are: Wednesday to Saturday 11am – 5pm.
